When someone searches "hardware store near me" or "dentist in Punta Cana", the first thing they usually see is a map with three businesses. That block comes from the Google Business Profile, and creating one is free. For a local business it is one of the most direct ways new clients arrive.

Here is how to create or claim yours, what to fill in so it shows up, and how to keep it climbing over time.

What a Google Business Profile is

It is your business profile inside Google: name, category, address or service area, hours, phone, photos, reviews and a link to your website. It appears on Google Maps and in the map block of regular search, and you manage it at business.google.com with a Google account.

Step 1: create or claim it

Look up your business on Google Maps. If it already appears, because Google created it from public data or a customer added it, use the option to claim it. If it doesn’t, create it at business.google.com.

Use a company Google account rather than an employee’s personal one, so the profile always stays with the business. Add whoever manages it later as a manager, without sharing passwords.

Step 2: verification

Google confirms that the business exists and is yours before showing it normally. Google chooses the method case by case: a call, a text, an email or, more and more often, a short video recorded on your phone.

If it asks for video, record it in one take: a reference point on the street, the entrance with the business name visible, and the inside or your work tools. Good light, no cuts.

Step 3: the details that matter most

Primary category

It is the most important decision in the whole profile. Pick the one that describes what you are, not everything you do: "Dentist", "Furniture store", "Party equipment rental service". Everything else goes into secondary categories.

The same name, address and phone everywhere

Write the name exactly as it appears on your sign, without adding search terms. And use exactly the same name, address and phone on your website, Instagram, Facebook and any directory. That consistency confirms to Google that everything refers to the same business.

Address or service area

If clients come to you, show the address. If you go to them, as with delivery, technical services or events, you can hide the address and mark the areas you serve. Many Dominican addresses are descriptive, so add clear landmarks and place the map pin carefully.

Hours, phone and website

Your real hours, holidays included. A WhatsApp number that answers. And a link to your website, ideally to the page for your most searched service.

Step 4: real photos

The storefront, so people recognize it on arrival. The inside, the team and finished work. About ten good photos to start and one or two new ones each month show Google, and your clients, an active business.

Step 5: reviews

Reviews carry a lot of weight in who appears at the top and, above all, in who the client chooses. The most natural way to earn them is to ask at the moment of greatest satisfaction: on delivery, when the job is done, when the client thanks you. Google gives you a direct review link; send it on WhatsApp with a short, personal message.

Reply to every review, using the person’s name and a calm tone. People who read your reviews also read how you answer.

Step 6: connect the profile to your website

The profile and the website strengthen each other. On the site, use the same name, address and phone, add a map, and give each service its own page with the city in the title. That tells Google what you do and where, and you show up in more searches.

What you can do this week

  1. Search for your business on Google Maps and check whether a profile exists.
  2. Create or claim it with a company account.
  3. Review the primary category and make name, address and phone match your website.
  4. Upload ten real photos, starting with the storefront.
  5. Ask for three reviews from recent happy clients.

When we build a site, the profile is connected from day one. If you already have a website, we review both together in website optimization.
